The Book of Boy by Catherine Gilbert Murdock

5.0

Set in the middle ages, "Boy" has always been a bit of an outcast in his small village. He has a hump on his back, a unique gift with animals, and spends a lot of his time alone, tending to his sheep. When a pilgrim named Secondus arrives and engages Boy as a servant, he leaves the boundaries of his village for the first time- an experience both thrilling and terrifying. This strange and wonderful novel surprised me at multiple turns, and I absolutely loved the writing and lyricism of Murdock's language.
