Seriously... I'm Kidding
by Ellen DeGeneres
Audiobook
I love watching Ellen Degeneres' show, either on TV or on Youtube. She is hilarious and absolutely entertaining. When I came across this audiobook, I did not hesitate to check it out. How much fun would this be, especially when it was read by Degeneres herself? As short as this was, it sure was a ball to listen to.
This book did not have a specific theme or plot; it simply was about Ellen's ramblings of things that all of sudden popped into her head at that moment. Her sayings were absurd, silly, inspirational, and often off topic. I could not help but laugh on how all over the place Ellen was. This might sound strange but Ellen definitely reminded me of Dory's character from Finding Nemo. I understand that Ellen voiced Dory, but I was surprised on how much of Dory's character was true to Ellen's personality. Her ramblings were ludicrous.
Of course this audiobook was highly enjoyable because Ellen read it herself. I'm not sure how much Ellen read was in the actual book but it had the sense that she improvised while she read her writing. She even stated a few times that what she was saying was only for the audiobook listeners. I need to read the physical copy to see if it's any different.
As a whole, this was a fun audiobook. It was not perfect, especially when some of her ramblings seemed a little excessive, but it was one great way to pass my time while I commuted to work. I wanted something light and this fit the bill.
