Daisy Jones & The Six
by Taylor Jenkins Reid
i ADORED how this book was written, with the spoken interview-style narration the whole way through. i was gonna give it 4.5 stars up until the very end when they revealed who the “author”/narrator was — not necessarily a plot twist, but it added so much more depth to the story and how the characters were speaking — and that was what sold me on giving it 5*. i was very nervous in the beginning that i wasn’t gonna be able to get into it or adapt to the interview transcript for the entire novel, but it grew on me as i went along and added a lot more depth to the story imo
it was really neat to have it voiced through the characters ~after~ the events, cause they could add their own depth of how they’ve developed since then, reflecting on their own choices, etc.. you could distinctly hear the voice of each person speaking which added life to the story and made the transcript seem so much more real. the cuts between different people speaking was spectacularly on the nose with the comedic timing at certain points too; i audibly laughed at times
also bonus points to tjr for actually writing out the lyrics (they’re in the back! i wish i had known this as i was reading) to an entire album of songs just for the story
