Erosion: Essays of Undoing by Terry Tempest Williams
4.0
emotional informative inspiring reflective

I really enjoyed this book. As a fan of processes, it was interesting to watch Williams work through periods of undoing and make meaning out of disarray. Reading this in a period of my own disarray some sections resonated very clearly while others hit too close to home. She spends a good section of the book mourning Trump's decision to shrink Bears Ears national monument which had been established under Obama. Although I recognize the amount of work Williams and indigenous peoples of the Southwest put into the establishment of that monument, the mourning feels slightly misplaced and thus falls a bit flat for me. Rather, I find the attitude of disappointment towards an institution like the United States Government unproductive. That being said when her focus is inward as a vessel of the earth I found great solace in the idea of erosion, and I think my critique is more reflective of my positionality than any issue with the book. Expansive collection of essays, would recommend.
