When you get chills as you're reading the last few pages of a book, that's a good indicator that the author has done her job well. Such is the case with Becky Chambers' third installment of the Wayfarers Series.
It is not perfect. There is not enough plot in the first half of the story. Although she constructs a vivid world and introduces us to nuanced characters, I found myself struggling to stay connected to the book.
But the individual threads start to weave together in the second half and the story gathers momentum and emotional heft down the home stretch.
As always, Chambers is thoughtful and kind and accepting. She sees our flaws, forgives us, and encourages to keep trying to be better.
