All My Knotted-Up Life: A Memoir by Beth Moore

5.0

I wouldn’t trade the hours I spent reading this book between 10:30pm and 3am for anything.

In ALL MY KNOTTED UP LIFE Beth Moore shares in both deeply moving and seriously funny words about three main periods of her life—childhood, her marriage and early ministry, and her ministry and recent controversy—and the ways God has shown up in tangible ways and in quiet stillness through the joys and the deep brokenness. I cried tears of grief and also tears of wonder at different points.

At the beginning of the memoir, Beth makes the comment how she wishes things in were black and white but so often it comes in shades of gray. The word I came away with was just how complicated people are and how complicated lives are. Also how none of it would be possible to make it without Jesus.

Beth tackles a lot of heavy subjects—abuse in her childhood, mental health, recovering from trauma—and manages to be deeply honest without resorting to a kind of tell-all. She walks a deft line respecting the other people who are a part of her story while relating her own feelings and just how God showed up, time and again. There are also turns of phrase where I almost woke the house up laughing. This woman can write, y’all.

She finds an amazing structure for the book—and I think it’s indicative of the work of God that He really does work in mysterious ways. I bawled at the end imagery. The title for this book is so so apt. ALL MY KNOTTED UP LIFE was amazing for so many reasons. I highly encourage you to pick up a copy. Thank you so much Beth for sharing your story with us. Five stars.
