All-Star Superman, Vol. 1 by Grant Morrison

4.0

Its biggest drawback is that it can be a bit campy at times. If that doesn't bother you, then you'll be fine. Campiness aside, this book does capture Superman pretty well, both the absurdity of the character and what makes him great. It also doesn't rehash his origin unnecessarily, but references it knowingly (and smartly).
