The Stray Prince
by Ella Fields
Epic Conclusion
I cannot praise this book enough. I was completely blown out of the water and it was totally worth the wait. Upon beginning this book we are immediately pulled back into this fantasy world, but things have gone astray and everything is not what it seems.
My heart physically aches from this story. It seems that around every corner there is a new secret lurking. I have to say that the way this is written is absolutely genius. It may be obvious to some who the Stray Prince could refer to, but I promise that’s only the tip of the iceberg. I went into this having my suspicions confirmed, but everything was turned upside now when I figured out what was really going on. Just as it’s predecessor, this story contains a tangled web of lies, secrets, broken hearts, and a whole bunch of smoke and mirrors.
To those wondering my opinion on whether this is more epic than AKSC, I may be biased (see first sentence) but I’d have to say no. I don’t think anything can top that book it was so unique and just the peak of writing. This book, however, does need to be read, while I don’t think it’s better than AKSC, it is equally enchanting and in a league of it’s own. The two really can’t be compared because they tell two different stories.
One of the top issues I had with this book was character development. I don’t really feel like most of the characters progressed forward like last book. I actually feel like Audra made a slight regression, but it does eventually lead to a big breakthrough for her, so I was okay with this. I also felt like this story was solely just about one character and everyone else was just a side-character, including the other main characters. As opposed to the last book, where every character played some vital role and their stories brought a new level of interest to the playing field. I was missing the emotional turmoil that I felt when I first dived into this world. Yes, this does this have angst, but not on the level as the last book. It was difficult for me to connect with the villain in this story in any way. I personally didn’t feel like I knew enough about them to be able to, plus, every move they made was something that could be predicted. I would have loved this more if I actually ended up hating him instead of feeling a deep dislike for one half of our mated pair.
