omgitsmandy 's review for:
The Phantom of the Opera
by Gaston Leroux
Wow. I really enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. I have yet to see the musical/movie and have heard it is excellent and have wanted to watch it for a while, maybe reading this will finally give me the push to do so. I was completely absorbed in the book, and felt myself feeling a lot of suspense, especially towards the end.
Before reading it I had some preconceived notion about the story that actually ended up being false, which I was really happy about. I've heard about this so much, and somehow constructed s tory in my head that wasn't true to the story in the novel. In this way, despite everything I had heard, it became something completely new to me. I must now thank everyone who has talked to me about it, for not giving it away. I know that can be a hard thing to do, especially for something so popular and already familiar with most people.
I would recommend this to anyone, it was a great novel and a very enjoyable read, especially when curled up with a blanket sitting next to a window and seeing the rain outside. Very glad I picked this one up, and will have to see how the movie and musical compare.
