Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

4.0

Never, ever did I want to read this...but it has so many over-the-top reviews that I'm giving it a shot.

This was so much better than I had anticipated. And what I had anticipated was YA smoochy-smooch crud. You know, vapid, shallow, "Like, OMG!" It so wasn't. However, it would completely appeal to fans of that genre. This was a well written book with fleshed out characters that the reader truly gets to know, and (GASP!) even like! It also made me revel a bit in the so-called "French snobbery" that exists towards Americans. Our culture doesn't always go for the best, but much more often settles for the instant gratification. Big Macs, instant coffee, blah blah blah. I want to sit and sip an espresso in a Parisian cafe...not chug a thermos full of Folgers on my way to job #2. Erg.
