Men Have Called Her Crazy by Anna Marie Tendler
3.5
challenging dark informative sad medium-paced

the first 60% is great, but just when i thought character development was about to kick in, so did the NDA (allegedly). I felt like the cathartic moment where she did some inner work and realized it wasn't men she hated but her need to please them (and their expectation to be pleased) never hit.

Frankly, the writing was really good and I enjoyed her voice, so it was disappointing to find there was no arc to the narrative. I wanted the John Mulaney stuff not to matter (I know he wasn't named or talked about going in) but I felt it missing. It's clear that something happened in that relationship that changed her outlook and I missed it in it's absence.

It's worth a read if you're interested in hetero gender dynamics, but I'd read it through the lens of an unreliable narrator.
