I deeply enjoyed this book, I loved the chemistry between the leads brought on by funny, thoughtful but not too forced dialogue. The way the characters spoke wasn’t too dated nor did it seem to be grasping for timelessness. That being said, despite the build up that was reminiscent to so many will-they-won’t-they so many young people find themselves in, and yet the payoff with the confession wasn’t as good as I think it could be. Especially on the male characters side, he’s very obviously obsessed with the main character and I wanted that to show in the confession! I did get frustrated how often the grumpy x sunshine tag lines (the constant mention on how Austin was sunshine and bright and like a dog) took over the beginning of the book. Although I blame the tropification of so many books instead of just letting tropes occur naturally or be assigned by readers not writers. That aside, I truly enjoyed all the characters and the intergenerational themes. I look forward to reading more books by this author!
