The Storm of Echoes by Christelle Dabos

5.0

I know this series, and this book in particular, aren’t for everyone… and I get it. A lot of readers have valid concerns, many of which I share. I wish I had seen more of certain characters, like Archibald and Berenilde. I wish that the story had not changed so much that it became unrecognizable from the first and second books. I even wish that the ending of this book had been different.

That being said, this series changed my perception of the fantasy genre. The writing was sophisticated (although convoluted at times) and it broke away from the conventional fantasy formula that I have become beyond tired of. This series got me out of a major reading slump, specifically when it comes to this genre. These books may not be perfect, but they’ve been a big part of my life for the past couple of months. I’ve fallen in love with the characters and become invested in the story in a way that I haven’t with a series in a long time. No hate to anyone who didn’t love, like, or even want to finish the series, but I loved it and that’s okay. I think it’s what I needed to learn to love reading again and I’ll be coming back to this series for a long time.

Flaws and all, I loved the mirror visitor series. It may not be for everyone, but for anyone who wants to give it a try I would highly encourage it.
