Emperor Pilaf makes a brief and mostly pointless appearance as Goku is able to gather the 7 dragon balls. Then a time jump of 3 years ensues where the fighters train for the next tournament. It turns out Master Roshi has a rival who is training his own disciples who turn out to be classic characters Tien and Chaozu but much less likable here than they are down the line. All the characters are able to display their increased strength as the final rounds come to form. Almost purely a volume in which the tournament takes place, Volume 10 is classic Dragon Ball.
