3.0

I didn't really know what this poetry book was about prior to stepping into it, I had only seen things about it via social media as it was very popular when it came out.

I've been wanting to get into poetry for a while, and I think this was a good start but it is definitely not the most complex poetry out there.

Some of the poems were repetitive, and some of the trauma written in the book is specific to sexual abuse which I was not prepared for, nor do I have any personal understanding of.

I can see how this book can be healing and a guideline for those going through traumatic experiences of various sorts.  There were several poems I really enjoyed:

"every time you tell your daughter you yell at her out of love you teach her to confuse anger with kindness which seems like a good idea till she grows up to trust men who hurt her cause they look so much like you"

"i am a museum full of art but you had your eyes shut"

"loneliness is a sign you are in desperate need of yourself"

"who tricked you into believing another person was meant to complete you when the most they can do is complement"
