I gave this book 3 stars but I'll be honest, if the two books in this duet were combined into 1 book without the extras, I would've given it 3.5 or 4 stars.
This book is not a standalone and Throne of Power must be read before this one. I honestly don't think there's any way someone can read this book and just put the pieces together they missed from not reading the first book. I did see the reading order for all of Rina's books. I haven't read any of the ones before this duet but I've added them to my TBR to see if I can put more pieces together.
I did enjoy the revelations that came to light as this book progressed. Some I had already anticipated while others I didn't see coming at all. I can't really elaborate on this without spoiling anything in the duet.
