Moshfegh perfectly creates a world of characters where you simultaneously pity and hate each and every one of them through the entire story and it’s amazing. This book is perfectly disgusting, demented, dark, and delves into the worst parts of humanity. I have no idea how to describe it other than this- but I did enjoy the commentary on humanity and the reliance societies have on religion and how it’s used as a scapegoat.
Graphic: Child abuse, Death, Rape, and Suicide
Moderate: Gore
