Pro’s/Con’s
To me, The Hunger Games didn’t have any con’s. Well okay, maybe one… At the end of the book I was kind of thinking about all the characters and what had been going on and I came to this conclusion: Peeta throws bread at Katniss, leads the careers to Katniss’ hiding place, dresses up as a rock and… …. … Indeed there isn’t anything more! Of course, there would have been a lot less sponsors if they hadn’t done all the romance stuff and of course they wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without Peeta but I just wish he would have done more active things. If I had to give one con: that would be the one.
But The Hunger Games had more than enough pro’s:
For one: Katniss. She is my perfect heroine! She’s strong, she knows how to stand on her own two feet and does anything for her family and the ones she loves. Yet she considers things, she doesn’t just jump into stuff (except the games) without thinking things through. And it makes me respect her for that. Other characters that I really love are Rue (she’s not that much in the picture but still left a big impression on me) and Haymitch (annoying and drunk in the beginning, drunk and awesome in the end).
Another pro for me was the ways Collins has written it all down. The language isn’t that difficult to read but also not to childish. It would be weird if the language had been childish while children were being killed. But I think Collins has pulled it off in the best way ever. The way she describes what is happening, how the surroundings look and what Katniss is feeling and thinking is just amazing.
And for the ones that are wondering what team I’m in: none. I didn’t like Peeta but Gale hasn’t been enough in the story for me to really get to know him. So for now I will be team Katniss and hopefully Gale will be more in the second book and Peeta more active then passive.
Recommend it?
So would I recommend this book? Oh yes I do. Anyone should at least try this books even if you normally don’t read any dystopian type of novels. The chances of you loving The Hunger Games are really high. One tip though: if you start reading this book make sure you won’t have anything important to do for say the next 3 to 4 days. Personally I didn’t do any homework and almost didn’t sleep since I wanted to read on so badly. So keep that in mind when you pick up this awesome book.
