The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt
4.0

This was an interesting oddball of a book. Not a pure shoot-em-up western, but it certainly had a decent amount of that. It had plenty of dark comedy around but also an introspective seriousness at its heart that was surprising and welcome. It was nearly episodic in that the journey to San Francisco had lots of stops along the way that weren't necessarily there to serve an overall story, but I enjoyed it and it's pacing.

My only quibble was once they finally reached Hermann Warm. It soaked up an awful lot of the book considering it wasn't the most interesting part. This includes an entire chapter where Mr. Warm gives an account of his entire life that was kinda boring.

Overall, though, I liked this book a good deal. The brothers have a very real and sometimes heartbreaking relationship that enjoyed both ups and downs along the way, and it was a joy to read their journey.
