The Summer of Skinny Dipping by Amanda Howells
5.0

I am a sucker for a pretty cover, and that's what drew me into this book. I saw the pretty cover, read the back and figured it would be worth reading.
And gosh, I think myself that I gave it a chance.

Mia is a very relatable character to me. She's kinda never really felt beautiful, her mother always putting her down, but then a boy, Jake, comes into her life and she feels beautiful… but that very boy ends up breaking her heart. The novel starts off as Mia heading to the Hamptons, ready for an exciting summer with her cousins. She arrives though to an icy set of cousins that have seemingly clicked since the last time she saw them and not only have they clicked, but boy have they changed. Mia feels very inadequate compared to Corinne, her cousin. Mia meets Simon though and their unique friendship really helps her forget about Jake. The friendship progresses, blossoming into something even more.
I won't go too far into detail, but this book is amazing. It is very similar to Sarah Dessen, even better though. It's a very unique book. I at first thought that it would be cliche and it would end with Mia and Simon going their separate ways, which they do, but in a completely different fashion. Their relationship teaches Mia a thing or two about herself. It helps her because it was one of the greatest love of her life, it was also the most tragic. Simon teaches her a lot about life and because of this, both characters, Mia and Simon, will always have a very special place in my heart and no matter how many times I read the book, I will always sob and I will never be disappointed.
I highly recommend this novel.
