This book was so good! I listened to the audiobook and couldn’t turn it off. It’s fast paced due to the content that drives it forward, and has a well developed political and magic structure. I don’t know if I would really consider this a spoiler but just in case. From an interview with the author, it’s based on Chinese wars of the 20th century and placed a few hundred years before that technologically. This book is graphic and has some intense moments but I think really does a good job portraying the harsh realities of war. I can’t wait to get to keep going with the next two in the series
