All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

4.0

This is a YA novel I can get behind. At first I rolled my eyes at the characters and how quickly they fell for each other, but I grew to love the characters. Plus, this novel approaches topics that are difficult to write about and even more difficult to discuss. I applaud Niven for creating characters that are relatable and face the realistic challenges of being a teenager coping with mental illness.

Although the characters are cheesy, I loved them. I loved Finch even though he broke my heart. He felt like nobody understood him and in a sense, he was right. Even the girl he loved with his whole heart, could not make him feel whole and understood. Unfortunately, this is a feeling I resonated with. Finch was wise beyond his years and I think that he helped Violet grow into the person she was capable of being all along.

All the Bright Places was a truly touching novel that brings several relevant issues to light and left me sobbing in my bed.
