Ethan Frome
by Edith Wharton
I see what Edith Wharton was trying to do - - making a statement about individual freedom both financially and within a marriage, discussing sexual passion left unattended - - but I don't think glorifying an extra marital affair behind the back of a demonized and vilified mentally ill woman is a good way to get that message across. And the "twist" at the end felt equally ableist and used a disadvantaged and impoverished person as a plot device to imprison an anti-hero further. Meh. Some good stuff, but mostly a book to forget and not recommend.
