Legend and Country by Emmanuelle Snow

emotional slow-paced

"You are not the problem. Love is like that. It is messy. And complicated. But it is also beautiful."

Legend and Country was an emotional rollercoaster ride!

Let's get this right off the bat. Slowburns and I have a love/hate relationship. I have to be in the mood for them to enjoy them thoroughly. I knew Legend and Country was a slow burn going into it. Even with that in mind, there were a few moments when I felt like it was too slow for me. However, if you love slow burns, you will enjoy it.

From my own experience, Emmanuelle Snow's books are not light reads. There are trigger warnings, so please look at them before reading.

I had to put it down a few times because it was too much for me. But, when I least expected it, I either had watery eyes or even tears beginning to fall. Luckily I was in private when this happened! I can't imagine being in public during those moments.

I found all of these characters relatable. I connected to all of them in some way or another. Even when I was frustrated,  I understood where they were coming from.

You know how you can be intuned to everyone else, but when it comes to you, you're oblivious? Well, this was the case for Sam and Madison "Maddie." Everyone knew they were perfect for each other before they did. This is common in many romances but also in life in general. But I think because Legend and Country is a slow burn, I felt like it took too long at times, but maybe it's also because I wasn't in the right mood, but that's more personal than the actual book itself, so I can't fault it.

I'm a sucker for the single-parent trope. The children usually make the story better for me. Because most of the time, they're there to lighten up the story since these types of books tend to be heavier.

The books from the Carter Hills Band series can be read in any order, although there is a suggested order to read them. However, You are still able to enjoy it without doing so. I had meant to read them 'in order,' but I didn't get the chance. So the only book I have read from the series was Pink and Country. And it's not as fresh on my mind because it has been a while since I read it. But the Carter Hills Band series is something I want to finish this year. It's one of my goals to read all the books 'in order' because I love the world that Emmanuelle Snow created with all of these characters. And I can't wait to get back into it, hopefully with a better frame of mind to appreciate it!
