The Black Ice by Michael Connelly

4.0

Enjoyed reading an early Harry Bosch. Picking up a some background details that the later books don’t provide. A small issue that I had with this was how Harry could continue to function with absolutely no sleep. Especially with the details and dangers that he had to deal with . But that is Connelly’s prerogative to have Harry be super-human. Christmas night discovery of a dead cop’s body in a hotel, being handed another cops 8 case files of unsolved to read through, investigate the one most likely to be solved in 3 days, spend quality time with two different women, break into various places, drive to Mexico, investigate possible drug smuggling associated with current case files, meet a detective from Mexico and case the suspected business associated with the smuggling, attend a bull fight, return to business and break-in overnight, get shot at in hotel room, accompany DEA on raid of drug kingpin, figure out the mystery and confront the mastermind, drive back 6 hrs to LA, attend funeral to see the widow, let commanding officer know that he was wrong and Harry was right, make date with widow and all of this in just 5 days. Still a fun diversion
