I was just saying last book how I was glad this was a slower romance. Not in this book. 35 pages in and she's trying to jump his bones.
Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. The book only got worse as it went.
First, I previously really liked Ibby and that's so important when the whole goal of the book is to rescue her. Now however, she's turning evil and being brainwashed. *Sigh*
Luis is just there. He literally gets no character development. I don't care about him one way or the other.
The new Djinn, Rashid, was horrible. It didn't help when he broke Cassiel's arm upon meeting her just because he could. So I pretty much hated him from the word go.
Cassiel is such an idiot! But no, of course she does what she was expressly told not to do. Naturally, it goes horribly wrong.
Trigger Warning: Gore.
I wish I'd know this sort of thing was in this book, I wouldn't have read it. I haven't read anything this stupid in a long time.
I found myself wondering if the author was being mysterious and holding back on purpose or if it was just bad writing. Spoiler Alert, it was just bad writing.
It was all just so awful. Before these books were mostly well written. (a couple of plot holes notwithstanding)
At least it didn't end on a complete cliffhanger this time...

Spoiler
I just knew when Imara made such a big deal about how dangerous the scroll could be, that it was going to go badly. How much of a warning do you need? Just tell Luis, no I can't use it to find Ibby.Trigger Warning: Gore.

Spoiler
Cassiel's hand gets infected by Pearl. She literally cuts off her own hand! And as if that wasn't bad enough the hand then goes evil and attacks them.I found myself wondering if the author was being mysterious and holding back on purpose or if it was just bad writing.
Spoiler
(About who the Earth warden, who was messing with everyone.)Spoiler
The villain was never revealed and none of that was wrapped up.Spoiler
Cassiel making a deal with Rashid was completely pointless since he did practically nothing. And the FBI storyline came out of nowhere and seemed to only exist to have another complication. At least it didn't end on a complete cliffhanger this time...
