Gone, Baby, Gone by Dennis Lehane

5.0

I think another review I read said that this book really messed the reader up emotionally. I am definitely feeling that way myself. Even though this book is over twenty years old, it is still just as heartbreaking and poignant. I really recommend it if you are reading this series or are interesting in noir style novels. I have no comment on the film version as I have not seen it yet.

If you are interested in this book, please do read the series in order. This particular one does mention key plot points of almost every previous novel in the set.

Spoilers:

I did pretty much see the first huge twist coming from far off. Given the twists of Lehane’s other books, I have come to expect that is a character I will initially trust. If I am being super picky, I thought some of the names were really stupid. Even with the explanation given, “Cheese” is a ridiculous name for a gangster-type.

I was also really impressed with how Angie’s development moved in this story. Her wanting kids really did tie into the storyline and make it that much more heartbreaking.
