The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

3.0

Powered through the book due to hype I saw online, but now I think it wasn’t really that worth it. Pretty interesting story but the ending felt very.. meh.

Normally a good twist leaves you feeling amazed and spell-bound, and a particularly good story would have instances of foreshadowing littered throughout that you later revisit with that sudden sense of clarity.

This book’s twist on the other hand didn’t give me any such joy, but rather felt a little anti-climatic and made me feel.. annoyed ? However that might just be a personal thing, because I’d already seen too many stories with similar twists and this one was also a little predictable.

On the plus side, the acute psychological inferences + explanations, and some of the quotes from the book stand out to me as particularly poignant observations and definitely my favorite part of reading this story. Some of these lines really struck a chord with me and I’ve marked them to revisit them later.

I read another review that said you should read this book if you haven’t read a lot of thrillers and I’m inclined to agree.
