The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt

4.0

I really enjoyed this Western! I liked Eli's narrative and enjoy the brothers banter. I could picture their journey clearly and, even though it threw me at first, I came to enjoy the formal, old timey language. I would advise, though, possibly listening to the audio book. I liken the dialogue to reading a Shakespearean play, or any play for that matter. Because of the way it's written, the tone and humor behind some of the dialogue can get lost and it can feel boring just by reading it. Listening to it, you can gain a better understanding of how it was meant to come across.

The only reason I gave it four stars was because it took half the book to get to the reason they struck out on their mission in the first place and I was expecting a bit more action, a little more fast paced. Plus,
Spoiler the description of the horse getting his eye taken out was really gross.
I expected some gruesome details, it is the lawless west after all, but I'm squeamish and some of the descriptions made me squirm in my seat.

I still recommend the book though. It's beautifully written and quite funny
