The Book of Rain by Thomas Wharton

4.0

A near-ideal reading experience for me. For me, the perfect plot is "Stalker" and/or "Sphere" and/or "Annihilation": an unknown environmental catastrophe has created a weird and uninhabitable area that our protagonists must explore; existential questions about nature and identity occur. The Book of Rain doesn't get 5 stars if only because sometimes the prose was a little workman like.
