This novel explores the political as well as the relational. The essential component of this book is its illustration of life in Argentina as the essential backdrop of this excellent horror. The characters are troubled and leave you wondering who can truly be trusted. The secure ties of Gasper and his friends is a warm relent from that feeling of mistrust in the adults. At times, there is almost a Stand By Me feeling to their lives together.
I’d have appreciated some resolution re Rossario because it felt like that was missing. I was waiting on a big shock finish but it ended in a neat, conclusive way
