Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

3.0

There is no denying that TJR writes incredibly readable and entertaining fiction. But despite not being able to put this one down, I was a bit underwhelmed. I had high expectations from the epic twists and reveals in Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones, and I think Malibu just fell short on that climax.

Bullet review:
- Sibling dynamics
- Family drama
- Summer vibes
- Great characters
- Satisfying ending

I did love the characters, especially Nina, and the themes explored via her personal journey. Particularly the consequences of having too much responsibility, trying to please everyone, and being overly sexualized. There is also a recurring theme of repeating our parents' mistakes, and I wish there had been more of that.
TW: alcoholism, death of a parent, abandonment
