Winter In Wartime by Jan Terlouw
3.0
This is a very slim novel but not necessarily a quick read. It serves as a good look at war from a different perspective and one that most readers miss out on. The story deals with an occupied town rather than a story taking place within a camp so this makes it easier (ie less violent) than many other war books. Translated from a classic in the Netherlands, students may have difficulty with the word choices and flow of the sentences but once they read a few pages it should begin to get easier. This would be a good choice for male readers who often are reluctant to read Anne Frank and would serve as a good compliment to that reading selection.
