The Troop by Nick Cutter
5.0
Despite how absolutely fucking awefully SICKENING this book was... This was... Incredible... The writing is so enchanting, especially regarding the comparisons of body horror toward every day objects. It painted the picture perfectly for me.
Every character played a role in how this narrative was told, from major to minor. There were the characters you were meant to loathe, and characters you were meant to treasure (and boy did I treasure two specific boys). The subtle foreshadowing of each character's fate was incredibly subtle, I'm surprised I even noticed, but the events that unfolded didn't come out of no where, you just had to know where to look. It feels really rare for me to find a book that actually has direction and an inevitable ending. It all felt so refreshing, especially since I was scared shitless lol. AnywAY, I will forever be thinking about this book. This book left me with such complex feelings, I can't tell if it's from pure DISGUST or heartbreak.
