I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have not read the Ruin or Seaside series so all the characters were knew to me, but that wasn't a problem. This book stands on it's own, but if you're like, me you will want to go back and read those series because you will fall in love with those characters. I enjoy a good banter and the men in this book can banter with the best of them! Banter away fellas!
I LOVED this book. Dani is not your typical teenage girl. She has lived through a terrible tragedy and is currently not speaking. At all. To anyone. Her brother in law Jaymeson, thinks that she would be perfect as his lead actor Lincoln's assistant while he is filming a movie, so that is what happens. Let's just say that Dani and Lincoln do not get off to a good start. He makes some assumptions about her and she makes some assumptions about him, but they quickly learn that they can throw those assumptions out the window.
Once they got past the initial bump in the road, Dani and Lincoln realize they have quite a connection. They managed to keep things platonic for a little while, which was nice. They got to know each other and it was clear that just seemed to just understand each other. Lincoln was a giant sweetheart who really wanted to help Dani. Her family and friends handle her with care and shield her from the things that upset her. Lincoln is protective, but knows that if she never faces what scares her, she won't be able to move on. That idea becomes very important towards the end of the book and it helped show just how important Lincoln became to Dani.
I was left with a warm and fuzzy feeling by the end. I really liked Lincoln. Despite the fact that he was a pretty famous, he was very down to earth and not your typical douchebag actor. He genuinely cared for Dani and wanted to help her. She has gone through a lot, but he could she that was a strong woman. Meeting Lincoln was the best thing that could have happened to her. He helped her in so many ways and the two of them formed such a strong bond, which is a great way to start a relationship.
So I really like when a book introduces a secondary character that makes me go: "I need to know more about you!" ZANE. Wow. Yeah, I know this book was about Dani and Lincoln's journey, but OH MY GOD. He's already on my book boyfriend list! He liked to hang around shirtless, being funny and giving good advice while being an awesome friend to Dani. I found him to be so intriguing and I can't wait to find out his story. Something tells me it is going to be a doozy.
