The Annotated Charlotte's Web
by Peter F. Neumeyer, E.B. White
My mom says that I read this as a class book in third grade, but if so, it's escaped my memory. The richness of theme and language makes this book well worth an adult read-through. The annotated edition contains relevant references to E. B. White's rules from The Elements of Style, pictures of White on his own farm, and wordier passages from earlier drafts that show how White pared down his text in order to create prose that reads as poetry.
