Fascinating story! I'm loving how Japanese and North European folklore are melding into a unique world of Yamazaki's own. This volume sung the loudest when the story used Chise and Elias' individual stories as metaphors for loneliness, isolation, and insecurity. If there was one message to this volume, it was that the scars of the past need to be left behind if we want to grow.

Favorite parts for me were the pages dedicated to Elias and Chise's conversation in the water reflection. The mirror images were illustrated beautifully. Also of note was Chise as a fox, but most importantly, Chise's transformation into a Phoenix when she returned home. It put an exclamation on the potential of her power, and also worked as a metaphor, revealing Chise is being reborn not only as a powerful mage, but also as a self-realized person. Likewise, Elias is being reborn due to Chise's affect on his life.

I believe I will end up buying this series.
