Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
4.0

Full disclosure, I felt pretty ridiculous reading this book because it is so obviously written for teenage girls. The first 40 pages or so felt so Twilighty that I almost just stopped reading. Granted, a lot of the story is cloyingly sweet the way stories about teenagers in love tend to be, and it's very chaste and PG, as you would expect.

But honestly I found myself really getting into it, and not even in a guilty pleasure sort of way. The writing is mostly good - the only things I didn't like were some of the teenage girl dialog and the silly song lyrics Sam makes up in his head. It's intelligently written without being overly pretentious, and I really like that Maggie Stiefvater obviously loves books and writing as much as I do.

I like that apart from that first part in the beginning, Grace as a character is strong and smart and quirky, and not at all like Bella Swan. It also doesn't hurt that Sam is a dreamboat.

Bottom line: It's a cool idea for a story (I like that normal werewolf rules don't apply in this world), and now I definitely have to read the rest of the series despite the fact that I'm 31 years old.
