Corrine has just moved back to Chicago after the death of her best friend. She’s not certain why she moved- could it be to feel closer to Joelle? While feeling alone and defeated one evening, an app suddenly downloads onto her phone- swearing it will find THE ONE! What follows is the ups and downs of life, love, and discovering yourself along the way. I LOVED these characters! Corrine is feisty and fabulous, and willing to admit when she doesn’t have it all figured out.
BUT! My big issue with the book was the fact that the story balances on this “magic app”, but halfway through it is like the story shifts completely- seemingly forgetting the app existed. The ending of the book seems more like an afterthought when adding the app back in- like an “oh yeah, better wrap this up” situation. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if the app had been left out altogether. To me, it never really made all that much sense.
I loved how the story balances grief, the need to continue to move forward but the fear of moving too far away from the time in which your loved one was there- for fear of possibly forgetting them. I will say it was sweet how they insinuated that Corrine’s best friend was playing love doctor from beyond, through the app.
Overall, it was a cute read but nothing to write home about. Corrine’s love interest was “meh” in comparison to the other vibrant characters sprinkled into the story.
