The Butchering Art: Joseph Lister's Quest to Transform the Grisly World of Victorian Medicine by Lindsey Fitzharris

informative inspiring medium-paced

4.0

A relatively solid, surprisingly quick read on Joseph Lister's contributions to medicine through the use of antiseptic and new-to-the-age surgical techniques. If anything, I thought the book went a bit fast and could have been more in-depth on the surgical landscape of its time in some areas, but solid enough as a foundation. That being said, it was written engagingly and caringly for such at-times horrific subject matter, and you truly get a feel for Lister as an individual outside of his work.
