Little Thieves by Margaret Owen

5.0

A book I truly could not put down. I loved everything that this book had to offer, despite being a bit daunted by the length of 500 pages and a sequel already being released. Luckily the sequel isn't needed to enjoy this book (thank goodness) and the pages are actually used well. This book managed to keep me invested in everything, from the fairytales sprinkled throughout, to the longer sections that kept the action going. This book is a slowburn romance, but thankfully it doesn't take up too much of the main story until the last 2/5ths, which makes a lot more sense overall. Most fairytale "feminist" retellings I've read have been a letdown. They either get bogged down with hundreds of pages of nothing or fall into the romance pittrap that makes the book uninteresting. This book on the other hand has a strong main character that has flaws and doesn't have a perfect recovery from them right away. The scenes of panic feel real and terrifying. I really enjoyed this book, but I doubt I'll read the sequel with how nicely this book was wrapped up.
