Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost

2.0

Once Burned was rather disappointing. I did not want to compare it to Halfway to the Grave because I knew it won't be as good but I at least expected myself to be invested in the story. I wasn't.

The problem isn't the characters, Leila was a good heroine all things considered and even Vlad didn't annoy me. I can see why many consider him hot. There wasn't anything I hated or hugely dislike but it was SO MEH. Cat and Bones are one my OTPs and I absolutely adore them but I couldn't see the same spark between the MCs here.

I might have picked up this book at the wrong time or maybe I need a different read since I was so busy the last few weeks, I barely got any reading done. I thought that this book would be fun for that reason. A light, enjoyable, romantic read. Sadly, I ended up bored and just waiting for the book to be over.

Plus, I felt many things were left unexplained (such as the supernatural abilities), perhaps because it's a spin-off of the Night Huntress which I didn't finish?

The book didn't lack action but I simply wasn't interested in the on-going events. I would only recommend it if you're a solid paranormal fantasy fan.
