Warrior Girl Unearthed by Angeline Boulley

5.0

There is so much to say about this book. It is 10 years after the book "Firekeeper's Daughter", which I did not read. The trigger warnings of that book are very intense, and so I was hesitant to read it. This book is still intense, but it covers some slightly different issues.  Even though many reviewers feel this is not quite as good as the previous book, I still think it was great.

I was RAGING while reading this. I didn't know about the serious lack of public institutions and their repatriation of Native American HUMAN REMAINS. Harvard still has thousands of items and humans that belong to the tribes. She doesn't specifically call out Harvard in the story (although there is a provocative quote), but that is a real-life example that I found via Google.

It's also important to note that this is a thriller, and I try never to read thrillers. This made me incredibly anxious, but it was still a great read. This book does contain spoilers for Firekeepers Daughter, so if you don't want to be spoiled, read that one first. If you are like me and are intimidated by those content warnings, give this one a try. The real-life context alone is worth it.
