Zero Days by Ruth Ware
5.0
Absolutely devour this in under 24 hours.
Ruth Ware is such an interesting author. I haven’t rated all her books 5 stars. But I love that all her books are so different. She is really not formulaic. So I never know if I’m jumping into a fast paced thriller (like this one the Key one) or a slow burn thriller (like It Girl or One by One). I love that about her. Keeps me guessing.
I will also say that a huge part of my like is that this may just be the most romantic thriller I’ve ever read. For sure top 2 even with the tragedy. Not only is our girl likable, but SEMI SPOILER ALERT BECAUSE WHAT HAPPENS IS IN THE PREMISE: so was her husband. So often in these books, all the characters suck. But not these. I was rooting hard core for Jacintha “Jack” Cross and could invision a whole series for her. I’d love to see her fully heal, continue her pen testing escapades, and maybe fine a new partner and love again.
This book is not broken into labeled chapters, but dates counting down to Zero Day. I loved the way it was broken down. Gave me the perfect stopping points to get up and be productive before returning to my binge read.
Also. This book made me cry. Ruth Ware pulled emotions from me I don’t often get reading thrillers.
I also loved her sister, Hel. They had an actual healthy relationship which was so refreshing. And what a great sister she was.
There’s even some closure at the end and a happy-as-can-be-under-the-circumstances ending.
Highly recommend.
