The main character is a Black Caribbean lady doctor abortionist fleeing a sordid past in Regency-era Paris. Like, come on, of course you're going to read this. The emotional heart of the story is moving, and the resolution is satisfying. The writing is a little overwrought and even cringe in a few places, but I don't read much Regency romance so maybe that's par for the course.
