Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang

3.25

M.L. Wang is outstanding when it comes to the craft of a world and the systems within it, further proving her mastery of the subject through the intrigue of Tiran’s brutal inventions contrasted by Kewn honesty.

I appreciate the ability and restraint shown to not make Sciona a saviour, she is self centred and prideful throughout despite the growth undergone. More importantly the kindly, sympathetic family are also allowed to be resentful and selfish; knowing a truth does not make a person magically morally good.

My main issue continues to be with the lacklustre writing and pages that should’ve been devoted to relationships between characters too. The editing is also a gripe as I feel like I’m reading an early draft of a potentially excellent novel instead of the finished product.
