The Widow Queen by Elżbieta Cherezińska

Did not finish book. Stopped at 20%.
DNF. I usually like me some political intrigue, but there didn't seem much else. None of the intrigue was at all interesting---just various people squabbling over land for no reason other than 'I want more land'. I cared very little about the various characters, and I kept getting confused by the differences between Bolesław and Boleslaw (no, it's not a typo; they're two different people); and by the time a second character named Eric popped up I was done. If you're going to write about historical people, fine--history does reuse names. But then you need to start using epithets or something to help the reader keep them straight. This was dull, confusing, and I didn't care enough about any of it to keep pushing past the bits I didn't care for. Which was all of it.

I'm still interested in the blurb, so I might have another go at it some day when I've got more patience--this might benefit from being read in hard copy, which I tend to keep reading to push through boring bits more than with e-books--but for now I'm done.
