I didn't expect a spy book to be part rumination on aging, death, and being put out to pasture, so shame on me for going in with preconceived notions. It had a good audiobook reader and interestingly stylized writing and dialogue, but I have to admit I completely lost the plot right at the end. There were a few too many beautiful women with murky accents, and I apparently missed one or two big things until reading a synopsis full of spoilers afterward.
