What a rollercoaster this one ended up being.

I hated the first half, I’m sorry but I did. I wasn’t really interested in a book about TikTok and Instagram because I’m trying to detach from all of that (though I will admit, Vera’s TikTok’s sound amazing). I also felt like it took a long time to settle into the new characters and move that component of the story along.

Once the new characters got fleshed out it improved a lot. And the last 50 pages were absolutely not what I expected, such a hard pivot into scary territory that it left me very emotional. But, classic Vera, it ended okay.

Well, it mostly ended okay. I am angry at no one helping Xander and want documentation of continued remorse from the characters. I understand everyone has their own shit, but a cup of tea and pat on the back from Vera doesn’t feel like enough. I think I’m frustrated that the characters all had a “forgive me for my shortcomings” moment that didn’t necessarily align with accountability for Xander.
