Rhya is a halfling, when he village is destroyed by soldiers searching for her she has no choice but to run for her life. But the soldiers pursuing her are relentless and finally capture her. Halflings are seen as abominations and as such are executed. When Commander Scythe arrives to oversee her hanging Rhya knows her time is up. But when the dark and deadly commander frees her instead Rhya is drawn into a war more deadly than she could have imagined.
It’s difficult to write a proper review of this one without giving too much away as there are plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing what’s going to happen next! There’s so much action and tension in this book that I needed to know the ending before I could even think about sleeping (hence staying up until 3am). This is definitely a slow-burn romantasy so don’t expect spice, not that it needed it as the chemistry between the two MCs and their complicated relationship is enough.
